A small peer-to-peer victory in the Italian courts, according to a report on pittsburghpostgazette.com:
"The court's decision, issued earlier this month but reported over the
weekend by the Italian media, overturns earlier convictions against two
former Turin Polytechnic Institute students who set up in 1994 a
peer-to-peer, file-sharing network that was shut down within months."
(Small aside, does '1994' sound right? Peer-to-peer in 1994? Maybe I'm being naive but is this an error? What were they sharing, WordStar templates?)
And a couple of words from franticindusties:
"This is an important decision, because RIAA’s brainwash is lately
succeeding in pushing the notion that p2p file sharing is a criminal
activity per se. It’s good to hear that judicial bodies in
some countries understand that listening to a song on the radio,
sharing a mix-tape with a friend, and sharing files on a p2p network -
if not for financial gain - do not automatically make you a criminal....In any case, this might be a good time to remember my old list of all the countries in which P2P sharing can most definitely cost you money, and possibly even your freedom."
